What is Plat Number, STNK, and BPKB in Indonesia

In Indonesia, a motorcycle’s plate number, also known as a “nomor polisi” or “plat nomor,” is a unique identifier assigned to each vehicle by the police and the local vehicle registration authority (SAMSAT). Components of a Motorcycle Plate Number:

  1. Province Code: The first part of the plate number indicates the province where the vehicle is registered. For example, “DK” represents Bali.
  2. Numeric Code: The numeric part usually consists of up to four digits, which can indicate the order of registration.
  3. Regional Code: The last part consists of one to three letters, which may indicate the specific region or city within the province.

STNK (Surat Tanda Nomor Kendaraan) or Vehicle Registration Certificate is the official document that proves the registration and legality of a vehicle under the owner’s name in Indonesia. It includes critical information such as the vehicle’s license number, owner’s identity, and vehicle specifications.

How to Renew Motorcycle Plate Number in Bali

Renewing scooter plate number only can be done at official Samsat Office based on district. Bring all the necessary documents like STNK and BPKB. Remember the document must be original and you need the Identity Card of the original owner, if you bought a second hand motorbike you need to reverse the name to yours.

This can be one time work, reserve name and renew plate number can be done at one time.

You need to renew your plate number 3 months before it expires. This change plate number will take 2- 3 working days.

The Samsat office is open from Monday to Saturday, Monday to Thursday 08.00 – 14.00 and Friday to Wednesday 08.00 – 13.00, and off on sunday. Better to go in the morning.

How Much it Cost

The cost of renewing your motorcycle plate number in Bali can vary based on several factors, including the type of motorcycle and the year of manufacture.

 For foreigners:

  1. Original and photocopy Passport, along with the KITAS/KITAP if you are a foreigner (Identity Card of the motorcycle owner)
  2. Original and photocopy of STNK
  3. Original BPKB
  4. Power of attorney if represented

For Indonesian:

  1. Original and photocopy of KTP (Identity Card of Motorcycle owner)
  2. Original and photocopy of STNK
  3. Original BPKB
  4. Power of attorney if represented

Procedure

Renewing your motorcycle plate number in Bali involves several steps:

  • Prepare all the necessary documents:

Need to remember, the document like STNK and BPKB should align with the identity card name.
If you are represented, you need a power Attorney with the original owner signed.

  • Fill Out the Forms:

Make sure to arrive at the office before 11 pm, then complete the renewal forms provided at the office.

Pay the renewal fees at the designated payment counter.

  • Collect Your New Plate and Documents:

Once processed, collect your new plate number and updated STNK.
