EPO (Exit Permit Only) Indonesia: How to Cancel Your KITAS or KITAP Properly

Overview of the EPO (Exit Permit Only)

The Internship Visa (C22) is Indonesia’s official visa for foreign nationals who wish to join an internship program in Bali or other regions of Indonesia.

This visa is specifically designed for students, trainees, and professionals in training who want hands-on experience in Indonesian organizations, NGOs, schools, or companies. It allows you to stay in Indonesia legally for the duration of your internship program, while ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.

⚠️ Important: The C22 Internship Visa does not allow paid employment or income-generating work. It is strictly for educational, cultural, and training purposes.

Purpose

The EPO is designed to ensure compliance with immigration rules when foreign nationals exit Indonesia permanently. It is ideal for:

Foreign employees finishing their contract in Indonesia
Expats whose KITAS/KITAP validity has ended
Students or interns completing their study or training program
Investors or business owners winding up activities under a KITAS
Families relocating out of Indonesia after their stay permit expires

Validity

The EPO is valid for 7–14 days from the date of issuance.
You must exit Indonesia within this timeframe.
Once used, the EPO cannot be reused for future re-entry.

Extension Possibility

The EPO cannot be extended.
If you do not leave Indonesia within the validity period, you may face overstaying penalties.

⚠️ Overstay penalty: IDR 1,000,000 per day. Prolonged overstays can lead to deportation and blacklisting.

Applicable Activities

The EPO is suitable for:

Permanent departure from Indonesia
Ending residency tied to a KITAS or KITAP
Cancelling a stay permit to avoid future legal or immigration issues

🚫 Not permitted: Entry or re-entry to Indonesia. The EPO is strictly for exit purposes only.

Essential Documentation

To apply for the EPO, prepare the following:

Original passport (valid and up to date)
KITAS or KITAP card
Original IMTA (if applicable for work permit holders)
Company or sponsor’s letter confirming the end of employment or sponsorship
Flight ticket showing confirmed departure from Indonesia
Sponsor ID and company documents (for corporate sponsorship cases)

Visa Extension Information

The EPO is not an extension but a final closure document.
After an EPO is issued, your KITAS/KITAP is cancelled permanently.
If you plan to return to Indonesia, you must apply for a new visa or permit.

Standard processing time: 5–7 working days after submission
Express service (through agent): 3–4 working days
Application period: Must be completed before your final departure date
Recommendation: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before leaving Indonesia to avoid last-minute issues
