Overview of KITAP

The KITAP (Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap) is Indonesia’s Permanent Stay Permit, designed for foreigners who wish to live long-term in Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia. Unlike a KITAS, which is temporary, the KITAP provides extended residency rights of up to 5 years per renewal and is the highest type of residence status available for foreign nationals.

It is the ideal solution for investors, professionals, retirees, and family members who want to enjoy stability and legal residency in Indonesia.

Purpose

To provide long-term residency rights in Indonesia for eligible foreigners.
To allow investors, workers, family members, and retirees to live in Bali with legal certainty.
To reduce the need for frequent visa renewals, ensuring peace of mind.

Validity

Issued for 5 years.
Renewable for consecutive 5-year periods without leaving Indonesia.
After 3 consecutive renewals (15 years), a foreigner may apply for Indonesian citizenship if eligible.

Extension Possibility

Renewable every 5 years under the same sponsorship.
Sponsorship must remain valid (company, family member, or retirement program).
If the sponsor is revoked (e.g., company closes, family KITAP holder divorces), the KITAP also becomes invalid.

Applicable Activities

KITAP holders may:

Reside legally in Indonesia long-term.
Open a bank account and apply for credit facilities.
Purchase and register vehicles in their name.
Apply for an Indonesian driver’s license (SIM).
Access healthcare, insurance, and education.
Work or invest, depending on KITAP type (Investor/Working).

⚠️ Note: Activities allowed depend on the KITAP category. For example, Family KITAP holders cannot work, while Investor and Working KITAP holders can legally engage in business or employment.

Essential Documentation for KITAP Application

Applicants typically need to prepare the following:

Statement of Integration
Application Letter from the Company/Foundation signed by the Director/Commissioner
Statement & Guarantee Letter from the Company/Foundation signed by the Director/Commissioner
Power of Attorney for Processing & Employment/Work Contract Letter (if represented)
ID Card (KTP) and Family Card (KK) of the Sponsor (+ Domicile Certificate from the Village Head/Urban Village Head for sponsors with KTP outside Bali)
Recommendation Letter from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM)
Company Documents:
NPWP (Tax ID), Business License, NIB & supporting documents as per NIB attachment
Deed of Establishment & Amendment Deed of the Company/Foundation along with Approval Decree from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights
Original Passport & Photocopy of Passport, Visa, and E-KITAS

KITAP Categories

Visa Extension Information

The KITAP can be renewed every 5 years.
Total validity may extend up to 15 years, after which applicants may apply for citizenship.
Dependent KITAPs (Family KITAP) are always tied to the main sponsor’s valid status.

⚠️ Overstay Warning: Overstaying a KITAP leads to fines of IDR 1,000,000/day and may result in deportation or blacklisting.

Processing Time of Golden Visa

Conversion from KITAS to KITAP:

Standard: 3–4 months
Requires Immigration approval and Directorate General of Immigration endorsement

Direct KITAP Application (for eligible categories):

Standard: 2–3 months
